Hope that it all works out.
Heard from the seller today. He has been out of town for 2 weeks and the person who was supposed to ship for him wound up in the hospital. I have a tracking number, that is showing delivery tomorrow. Fingers crossed that he just got stuck in a crappy situation.

Controller arrived today. ORP and pH probes were shipped dry and are worthless, both reading 000. Salinity probe is physically broken. Temp probe is absent. I'm very, very not happy. I have a very expensive light timer

Maybe you should take Carty up on his offer!!
That sucks Pearson I would be calling and complaining for your money back.

I've exchanged a couple of emails with him. He says his aquarium maintenence guys took the controller down, and he's going to take it up with them. in the meantime, PayPal closed my claim because he entered the tracking number and the package showed as delivered. No recourse there anymore.

Hmm...seems like he should pony up a partial refund...
Maintenance guys? Hopefully they didn't swap out your functioning probes with useless ones...
Hopefully you will get some sort of amicable resolution.

My first controller was a Lighthouse controller by MCU Research that I bought used off of a guy from San Diego. He happened to be in Los Angeles, so I met him at a local Coffee shop to inspect the controller. Probes were also dry, but I knew the controller was functioning because he let me access the controller's web server for two days before he came down.
Long story short, the controller only lasted 2 months before the display started malfunctioning and one of the buttons that started a bit sticky got really sticky. Turns out that the manufacturer does not have access to those OLED displays anymore, and has since moved onto another motherboard, so my options were to use the controller only through its webserver (cannot be fully programmed that way), or to trash the controller and get a new one.
I didn't even bother contacting the seller since the controller did work correctly right after I took receipt. It is just one of those grey areas of argument that I do not feel comfortable impressing. I kissed that $200 goodbye and got a new controller.
I swore then that I would never again buy used electronics...
That is terrible!
I am sorry, I hope the guy makes it right with you.
Sorry to hear you never know out there anymore .

There are shady dealings everywhere. It's not just on-line. Life in these times is buyer be ware on anything used, sometimes even on new items. It's sad but true.
Pearson, sorry you had to deal with such an irresponsible person. This is a lesson for all of us.
