Pic of 5" vent for the tank. I was thinking of using a panasonic 800 cfm whisper quite fan to vent the rear and adding 2 ice cap fans to vent the hood. Any thoughts ?
Getting there little...by...little.

I think the more you can move air the better. I am not particularly good with this part of the hobby but if it was my tank I would make both an outlet and an inlet. I'd use the fan to suck the warm moist air out and let the fresh cool air flow in on its own. This makes the most sense to me since heat moves to cold so you could use this natural phenomenon to improve efficiency.

Thanks for the input Carmie. My only concern w/venting fresh air are polluntants... I guess I could utilize some type of filter. I'm leaning more towards putting a deltec eco cooler underneath the the house where it is always cooler than inside or outside the house.

A simple hepa filter pad for the incoming air will eliminate pollutants and bacteria. I like the basement vent idea!
+1 on liking the idea of the chiller under the house. They are noisy and they do tend to heat the room.

BTW: There is a used Eco cooler for sale on R2R right now by a reputable reefer:

Thanks for the heads up Scott ! Unfortunately, somebody already bumped it.
On a side note, I picked up a new truvu prop tank from a fellow reefer that never got it set up...whoot !
I'll post some picks later on...I would be interested in your thoughts regarding setup.
Pictures as promised. I bought this truvu prop tank off a fellow reefer who just had no room for it. It's still in the original plastic and measures 4' x 2' x 12" w/a single 1" overflow. I have a tunze 9075 laying around and I was thinking of hooking up (2) 6055 nano streams to it. I'm also thinking of a ati bubble master160 for the skimmer. Lighting is something I'm open to...maybe a sunlight dual 150 mh w/ dual 54 watt T5's ? I'm thinking of making a sump/fuge out of a 40 gal breeder or buying a one. I have a eheim 1260 laying around for the return.
Let me know what you guys think !

Pic of overflow.
Sideview of prop tank.
Now I just have to build a stand for this thing !
Woah! Super sweet! Congrats!
I ought to be reading from casebooks, but reefs are so much more interesting!
hehe... You've got a bigger prop tank than my display tank...
On second thought, your prop tank has more water than my entire system...
awesome.
Hey Scott,
What do you think about the equipment ?
I'm thinking about maybe getting one of those vertex skimmers also.
Awesome prop tank.

Quarantine quarantine quarantine your tank's will thank you and so will your corals u'll also avoid a lot of aggravation with pests, predators, or disease's that come on coral's or live rock or fish
The prop tank will be separate from the 450g system?
The BM160 is a good fit and a decent skimmer, but the "word" is that the BM160's build quality and performance are matched by todays much less expensive skimmers such as the Vertex IN-100 or a Octo Extreme 160. I've read that the BM160's body flanges have been known to break during shipping.
DFason is selling his external H&S A100-F2000 on NR.com for $190 shipped ($220 w. feed pump) which has me tempted (although I do not want to reconfigure my sump yet again)...

Your lighting idea sounds good for such a shallow tank; However, I am a T5 convert with no MH experience... I am really digging my ATI Sunpower... a 8x54w Sunpower would cover your prop tank quite well (if not too well) and run cool...
A 40g BR for a sump fuge is downright luxurious; The Eheim 1260 should be perfect (same pump I use...).
