Question Anyone have Phyto / Rotifers?

Does anyone culture Phyto or Rotifers? Hey I'm in DE and I asked around down here, but no one has any or at least no one responded to a thread I made a while ago. I have a pair of breeding shrimp that keep going at it and I would like to attempt to raise up some of the larval that keep swimming around my tank. I've also go a lot of corals that would benefit from live food.

Anyone culturing that might be able to let me get a tiny bit next time they split their culture?

Jon

21 views, no reponse and I haven't returned here since. Perhaps some other people are looking for the same thing?

Here is a thread I posted on... dare I say it... that dreadfull other place...RC( yuck) anyways. Ran into someone in there that is down where the sun shines and the ground isn't covered in wet white stuff.
? Anyone have Phyto / Rotifers? Just incase anyone else was interested in getting some. If you live close to me though let me know and perhaps I can split some of what I buy with you.

Now that I have a source for the live stuff, can anyone recommend a place to get a strainer from? Is there a particular type you would recommend?

you can get the stuff, live or suspended through Algagen
then as mentioned there are many podcast audio and video shows on how to prepare and culture, including where to get and how to use the strainers (which are available from florida aquafarms)

hey rob!
so are phyto and rotifers food for soft corals and LPS? because i am pretty sure its the same thing as my Phyto-plex from kent marine, but what about the zooplex i dose in my tank for my LPS? do i need to make zooplankton cultures for that or is that what rotifers are for?

well i dont think i covered it exactly.

lets start with this
phytoplankton = microscopic plant/algaes
zooplankton = microscopic animal

both of these are categories, not species.. they cover a WIDE range of things.
our algaes we cultures line Nannochlopsis, and isocrysis are types of phytoplankton. rotifers and copepods are examples of zooplankton.

so to answer your question, the stuff you are getting is a collection of various dead zooplanktons. can you replace this with rotifers? sure will it be a nutritionally complete, likely not. but this would be a lot cheaper (and is exactly what i do)

on a side note i recommend moving any other questions to a discussion forum and not in the buy/sell forums..
