Tips & Tricks

Hello Rob,
I don't know if you have set up an area for this yet but I thought I would post this here. It is not anything complicated but is a simple solution to a annoying problem.

Problem: Pumps that rest on the bottom of the sump usually put out a bunch of noise due to vibration

Solution: I used extra flex tubing from the plumbing of my tank and cut two pieces the same length as my pumps. I then took two tie straps and secured them to the pumps using the holes provided on the pumps. The result was a least 50% less noise from vibration. This can be done outside the sump as well. I know this is simple but it might be helpful for a newbie like me.

Very neat trick! I've heard of people putting mousepads under their pump too.

Very good Cabbagehead... My Company, BBN Technologies, uses similar 'fixes' for noise issues with pumps and motors on various navy vessels. Maybe you have a career path with us

That’s a good idea, I actually did one yesterday for my skimmer pump, and it actually reduced the noise considerably.

Thanks

Here is the picture that I promised. Forgive me for it is not the best angle but you can get the general idea.

Here's mine

They are attached to a Mag-Drive 24 but I chose Super glue instead of wire ties. Thanks for the great idea!

I used a mousepad for a while, and it seemed to be plain old neoprene, but I eventually swapped it out for some tubing just to be safe.

xtmreef...

Nice idea. However, do you find that you need to clean the Enkemat from time to time? I found that it gets grungy fast and can become a breeding ground for Aerobic bacterium. This, in turn, made my nitrates sky-rocket.
