Gustav's wrath on our tang

I have a regal tang. We lost power during Hurricane Gustav for 7 days. Eventually we did get a generator to hook up the pump on our fish tank, but not until a day and a half had passed with no power. During the time before the generator, we tried to create motion in the water to get some oxygen to the fish. We also limited the amount of food we fed the fish so as not to pollute the water. The power is back on now and our other fish are functioning normally, but our regal tang can only seem to swim forward, not up and down. Now she is turning pale blue and barely eating if at all. Even with the pump hooked up to the generator, the water temperature must have been pretty high. Does anyone have any suggestions about what may be wrong with our tang and how to make it better? Please help.

Hi jeafish,

Welcome to TR. Not sure what you can do beyond what you are doing. Give us a little more background on your system.

Size, water parameters, temp, salinity, etc.

Dick

Hi jeafish and to TR.

While waiting for the information that Dick requested, I'll ask a couple of questions too. What have you tried feeding? Have you tried soaking the food in garlic to help entice the tang's appetite?

taking into consideration where you live ... i would HIGHLY recommend a few of these.

Penn-Plax Aquarium Products - Page 15 of 31

the thing about them over a lot of the others is that they plug into the wall outlet and when the power goes out ... they turn on. this would save a lot of fish and all you would need is a decent stock of D batteries to change them out over a long period of time.

im also sorry to say, but i agree with everyone else ... only time will tell if the hippo tang will make it through the ordeal.

I LOVE the Penn-Plax B11's. They are the cheapest insurance you can buy!

They can save you in a lot of situations. Ice storms, hurricanes, problems with the electrical distribution, etc
