I am lucky enough to be going to the All-Ohio frag swap next Saturday! After viewing Victoria's photos, I am longing to get a hold of a Monti Cap frag. I want to be sure that it will do well with my PC lights (4x96) before I get it. I can get it high in my tank if need be. What do you think?
In addition, are there any other SPS that I can grow under those lights?
sps plates are easier to grow under lower light, not to say they dont handle MH cause they surely do! T5 are stronger than PC, however u say u have four of them so im assuming you've caluculated how much juice they pump out! my question is where are u going to put it, cause they can grow quite large! also besides light positioning you have to factor in the flow rate, cause its less then other monti sps

I think when you say Juice, you must be referring to watts. I have (4) 96 watt bulbs for a total of 364 Watts in my 65 gallon.
I do have a Monte Digi that looks to be doing great. I suppos I could put it lower in the tank, I have an area that is low and open. I can also adust flow a bit, but most of my flow is higher in the tank, as I try to avoid causing my sand to shift alot.
Is the monti digi the one I sent you? I think I sent u an SPS stick of some sort- is that doing well?
Actually Gwen, that was the only thing that didn't make it from our one sided frag swap. The peice I am referring to is one I got from Wesley in our swap. Since then his has bleached, and mine is doing great. I am not sure if his has recovered or not.
As Far as Watts per Gallon, I am running at 5.9, so I think I will give it a try!
Duane, I think you will be fine. They are very hardy and adapt well to most lighting conditions. I have found that the green montis seem to like higher lighting than the common orange. If you don't find one at the swap I can frag one of mine orange ones for you.
Hey, thanks for the offer. I did find one and I am signed up to get it. This swap is listed in www.fragswapper.com so people list there items and then you can reserve your frags. It is neat. I appreciate the offer and I may take you up on it if this falls through!
My monti is recoverying very very very very slowly. it has alittle green to it and the polyps are verry alive. Ive heard it takes awhile to recover but i didnt know this long lol
west your avitar officially went from bad to worst! quite funny though
your got to stay off the hooch my friend> cause your reaching my level of crazy!
Monti's will do fine in that lighting. They do grow fast and can shade other corals in you tank so make sure you watch that.
Monti's color differently with different lights. Mine is under 150wMh+2 65w PC. It grows in an upward growth with lighter body color and darker rim color. A frag of the same piece in another tank under 2 65 w PC grows more flat with a deeper body color and a lighter to no rim color. So don't be disapointed if your colors change with your lighting.
