Here is a question I have not seen posted elsewhere..
I know that when setting up your tank yo need to take things very slow. I know you shouldn't add a bunch of fish all at once and you should take baby steps. Does this also apply to corals? Should you only add a new coral every couple of weeks or are there any rules of thumb involved?
hmmm, ive never took that aproach for corals. im guessing its because they dont produce much waste as fish. the reason you add fish slowly is to allow your system to adapt and produce enough bacteria to handle that fishes dump load.
as for reef, i just acclimate them properly and add what i got all at once, fish is a different story. im not sure if it is "better" to add your reef slowly to your tank, but i dont. hope thats not bad.
Corals are a little different, but keep in mind some corals may not do well with other corals - competition and stuff. Just be careful- the first place you put the coral may not be the best place and if you buy a bunch of corals, moving them around wouldn't be so much fun.
i've purchased multiple corals before. you just gotta use common sense to determine what bio-load you have already versus what the percentive of total load addition. there is always a lag time for the tank to adjust for the increased load. the bigger the increase, the longer the lag time. also, if you were unfortunate to purchase several bad specimens together, you got big problems. do you have a quarantine tank for corals?
