Question Polyps

I am planning on getting some polyps for my future seahorse tank. ddo they eat phyto and will i need to directly feed them? and they don't sting do they?

How do oyu frag them? can they just be picked off the rock and moved...?

how often to they spawn and how many little ones will there be in one spawn?

im assuming you are talking about zoanthids???
all corals have polyps, and many zoanthids or polys have differencing care and fragging details..

"generally" they are fine catching free food in the water column, spot feeding can help promote faster growth and spreading, but is required for some types.

you also want to be careful because some pack a powerful sting and could injure a pony, but i will let the pony experts talk about that more

for the most part, unless the SH tries to hitch to it, or you happen to have a tail-dragger, anything is more or less safe. the thing is, SH will try and hitch to pretty much anything, so you need to be mindful of what you add.

the real problem isn't necessarily the sting itself, but the secondary bacterial infection that is almost guaranteed to follow. we've had cases where the sting of an appie has killed adult SH due to infection.

zoos are generally consudered safe, but palys might be risky. smooth shrooms are safe, but fuzzy species(Rhodactis, hairy Tongans) can and will consume fry and small juvies.

LPS is pretty much out except for Tubastrea and Fox corals.

most softies (ours LOVE colts) and gorgs are great, but SH tanx are low flow, so you'd need to put the gorgs in a high flow area. i've also heard of SH liking gorgs so much, they kill them with repeated hitching.

if i do get some it will definatly be a non-stinging one. and i will have i think a couple low powered 10 gallon powerheads just to keep the water slightly moving. i don't want the water to just sit there like a pond but i don't want the horses to get dizy from hitting on powerhead, blowing into the current of another and then repeat it... haha

anything filter feeding will have some current enough to move stuff around and i'll probably spot feed too.
