What exactly is button polyp? This red button is about half the size of of a #2 pencil eraser's diameter fully opened. It has since spawned off a new one of it's self thats even smaller.
Some are commonly known as Daisy Zoanthid, Daisy's share the same look as the ones you have. Button Polyps are just small versions of zooanthids. I think they are the same family.
Here is a link for some that look like yours. Daisy Polyps
The thing with common names is that they are just names that people have named them and the word was spread. You can look on the internet and see the same Zoo with two different names. Daisy is just another example.
I cant find an anemone that seems to have the same look and style to it. Im not so sure if it is an anemone after all. I found one anemone that has a picture of a bunch of small ones all forming a colony. That ones was called De Bellas Anemone. But im not so sure its the same either. I think im lost on this one lol. Maybe someone esle will chime in and help
The red polyp does not have a slit like the Green Button polyps. Also it is much much smaller, as I mentioned, it is about half of the size of a pencil eraser when fully opened.
the second image is a zoanthids as noted, the term button polyp also refers to zoanthids, but is usually reserved for there larger (not small) ones.
as for the first, they look like a collection of small ricordeas maybe, not really sure..
id say lets. i would not go with an anemones, even the mini carpets haev a different look than that, and they don't bunch up like that either
do they have a visible mouth slit in the center?
maybe an image from above would help
