Well I'm interested in making my first online livestokc purchase and I'm interested in Clams. Maxima, Gigas or Deradas Clams would be nice. Does anyone have a particular dealer that they could recommend for overall customer service and delivery satisfaction? I would like to possibly get a 1 inch so I can see to fruit of my labor when they grow.
I've heard great things about Clams Direct. That's where I plan to purchase mine when my tank is mature enough. I don't know of anyone who will sell a 1 inch clam though. They have a higher mortality rate at that size. The smallest I've seen are 2 to 2 1/2 inches and they require a lot of extra care. About 3 inches and above, less so.
i've seen 1 inch clams. but don't do it. Jimm is right about mortality. if it is wild, AT LEAST 3 inches. but indoor cultured 2 inches are okay. outdoor farmed clams and wild ones may carry parasitic snails.
i would like to know about ordering online, in general...none of the LFS around here hold livestock for any amount of time.......as a matter of fact, if you hit them on thursdays you can purchase the critter in the bag it was shipped in.....which could be considered good or bad, depending on how you look at it
i would like to order some fish & inverts from a reputable place

i agree, i too have heard good things about clams direct.
never shopped there though
They sure do have some beautiful livestock. The best I have seen even from the local store. I'm actually interested in the Gigas Clams they have. I just might place an order. Damn I have no will power what so ever. You have to love this hobby. LOL

keep in in mind, the color in pictures are sometimes not quite what i it really is.
The one thing that I would say about clamsdirect is that they actually tell you what lighting conditions the clams that are photographed are under and what camera and settings where used. My sister actually is a camera enthusiast and owns that same model camera so I'm going to trust their images as well. I might just place an order today. Why not!

Rob, I will definitely do so. I actually just finished registering on their forum so I could see the feedback on recommendations of clams. Their forum is dedicated to everything Clammy. :-)
Rob, getting back to ClamsDirect forum its completely dedicated to the Clams and everything having to do with Clams. Lighting, Predators, Disease, etc. etc. They really provide you with the means and information of making an intelligent/sensible purchase and for the price its well worth it. I also like that their shipping prices are the same if your purchasing 1 or 10 clams its still the same shipping price. For the price it seems worth the buy but I will get one in the next few days and keep you posted.
Rob, I will have to wait for a week or too before I let everyone know how about my service experience with ClamsDirect.com since they do not take American Express as a paymen method. I only shop with American Express. :-)
