Fight of the Hermit Crabs

Thought I'd share a little video clip I snagged a number of months ago of some hermit crabs fighting over a shell. It involves three hermit crabs, one determined to get another out of its shell so it can claim it...and the third decided to join in for a little of the fun.

The clip is about 36 seconds, I played with it a bit (Windows Movie Maker), and the size is 1.3MB. I shot the clip originally with my little Canon A80 camera, while editing I got rid of the background noise of the TV.

Hermit_Crab_FIGHT

Anyone have Quicktime Pro for Windows? Is it any better than WMM for putting stuff like this together? And can it import AVI files?

Those hermit crabs are pretty ugly when they are out of their shells!!!

LOL....while working on it I realized it was CSI that was playing in the background...not the music but the show, heard them describing a crime scene.

Hmm...what's that one song.....flight of the sugar plum fairy or something....that could be funny to add in on the vid if I find it. LOL

yeah, I think I may have found something else that may be neat. but first I gotta burn an audio cd...then rip it to mp3, then I can import it. UGH!!! I have to believe that Quicktime Pro would accept apple's music (even their purchased music).

If you are thinking of the one from the Nutcracker ballet I believe that it is Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. It is in the public domain so you could probably find a MIDI file.

Ok, I can't believe it took THIS LONG to edit that stupid sound file I decided to use. UGH!

But I think it is pretty cool now. :-) If you watched it when it didn't have any sound, I re-uploaded my file so the link now points to the vid with sound. file size is actually a few K smaller if you can believe it.

enjoy. :-D

That's the same reason why I have to buy new nassarius every few months *sigh*

If you think those lil' guys are ugly w/o their shell, you should see my kids Land Hermit Crabs without theirs... gross! Like witnessing a sponge bath on a 200 year old

Here's one of the clan.. "Gigas". He's as big as a racquetball. They have others too...all in a 40 gallon long breeder that I've been eyeballing as a reef Anyone know how to kill these crabs? Kidding... We got them on vacation one time when my brother in law said "Oh..get them...they don't last for more than a couple months". So....three years later...they are as big as dogs...and I still don't have my 40 gallon long reef!

Yeah, I think I'll stick to only getting a glimps of mine every so often.....don't really want to image (past your description) what a large land hermit looks like!

Hate to admit this, I had thought about getting a land hermit crab a number of years ago. Don't know what I was thinking then, but thankfully I never did act on the thought.
