Banded Coral Shrimp vs Brittle Star

A few months ago I lost a coral beauty and three chromis. I could not even find the remains of them. I had a banded coral shrimp and brittle star in my 40 gal tank at the time. Either one or the other eat them. I want to know if this is usual for the shrimp or the star to eat fish. Right now I still have the star with some chromis, but I want to know if it is safe to put other fish.

Is the brittle star green? They have been known to turn on smaller fish from time to time. I also had a pair of CBS that used to try to catch my chromis, and even tried to take on my coral beauty. The brittle star, depending on it's size, may eat a chromis, but I seriously doubt it would take on a coral beauty. The shrimp would try to eat anything, but were never successful in catching any fish. The shrimp and star are both gone from my reef now for those very reasons.

While I wouldn't necessarily expect either of those to catch and consume fish regularly, I'm not surprised you didn't find any remains, as both are excellent scavengers.

It is a Ophiocoma sp. brittle starfish. I do not know if that is a green brittle star. The coral beauty was doing so good. I am leading towards the shrimp. I would see him taking on the fish, but I too did not think that the coral beauty would be caught. I guess it is part of the trade.
