smoking snail
ok, so I unpug my pump to let my fish chase some brine around for awhile, I took a quick trip to the store, when I came back my tank was cloudy. I was puzzled, but then noticed one of my mexicanturbo snails 'smoking'. Literally large puffs of cloudy something. he actually kept this up for some time. I am assuming a sexual event, though I am not finding any info on it. Anyone?

Yup, gotta watch out for those snails. You leave them alone in the tank for 10 minutes and, they spawn. Seriously, as already suggested, check out the info over at ProjectDIBS.

Is it because the pumps were off? Yuck, he made a mess (It didnt take long to get rid of though). Should I be looking for snail eggs in the future? Ok, going to check the site!

It may have been more visible because the pumps were off but I don't think that would cause them to spawn.

Did you do a water change or a top off? Most often, they tend to spawn with a sudden change in
salinity . Sometimes, they spawn when under stress.
My large stomatella do this too. Cloudy mess.

Temperature changes also trigger spawning.

That may be. I cant think of anything out of the ordinary I top off about 2 gal every day,I'm due for a water change on Sat , lights were on a bit later than usual, though, out of town guests watching fishies. Maybe I just dont notice with the pumps running. Funny, looked just like someone puffing on a smoke coming out ofa little tubual (I just made that word up, but I like it!)
DIBS what a site! Thanx for the turn on! I have a lot of looking to do!
