Pod of some sort?

Last night I was staring at the tank as always and I saw a pod of some sort. It was green in color and kind of looked like it had a hard shell like top. Does anyone know what I am talking about.

Thanks

Nate

There nothing on there the he looked like. I ran to get the camera when I got back it was gone. He was a good swimmer. He had a 3 small protective covering that covered his body on top. Maybe 4-8 legs on each side. Green in color, I didn’t see any antennas on him. I just more concern if he’s okay for the tank. I thought I seen a picture somewhere that an anglerfish ate one whole and the owner had to remove it. Maybe I’m wrong.

Bob, there are so many things that it could be that we would be doing you an injustice if we were to just take stabs at a guess.

Sit your camera by the tank :-)

Look closely Bob... does it look EXACTLY like that picture? Do you remember the eye placement... probably not from the quick look you got. Eyes towards the front like your pic indicates a parasitic isopod... could be a Cirolanid. That's not good news. But it also could be an innocent sphaeromatid like these:

I have a pic here somewehere that shows a comparison of the 2... I'll find it.

So there was only one of these guys? And it was swimming? Keep a close eye on your fish....

I would have to say it looks more like sphaeroma, on the other hand the thing I saw last night has a head that’s not the whole body, like the two above pictures.

I have never seen it before, and last night I added 4000 copepods that I purchased from Ocean Pods of the quick link from this website. I didn't see anything in the bottles like it, but they had Easter string in it and I could have over looked it. I will keep my eye for and try and take a picture for you.

Should I take it out and place it in a container until I can ID it?

Thanks for all you help.

Nate

If you can get your hands on it to remove it... oh yes, please do! And if it's something that I don't have you may have a little seahorsedreams begging ya to send it her way... dead or alive.

But, just to note for the future, if you don't know what it is and you can get it out of the tank... do so before it disappears. I remove everything I don't recognize until I can get an ID.

You will be the first to know what I can't ID from now on. And you can have first dibs on what I catch.

Renee,

It was a sphaeroma. I caught him last night and was going to the kitchen to place him in a container and it fell out of my hand (more like I was playing with him to make sure what he was) and the dog ate it, no joke. I felt sick because I would have mailed it to you if you wanted me to. I will keep my eyes pilled for another one. Sorry

Nate

Thanks for thinking of me Nate, but I actually have the sphaeroma category covered because they are my photos above.... always looking for new critters to click with thhe camera.

Glad that what he turned out to be.
