You're not attached to the damsel, right? We had a domino with our chiragra for the longest time... maybe a year. They shared a cave and whenever the damsel got spooked she would run to her protector mantis. Then one day the mantis got a Brutus bug in his ear and he killed the fish.
Great photos.... she will soon become your favorite critter.

lol no i'm not attached to the damsel. I got him knowing that they would either live in harmony(at least for a little while)....or he would be food.

Ehh.....they really aren't that bad. Even though it is possible for larger species of mantis to break glass...they rarely ever do. Mine hasn't even acted like she was going to strike the glass. They are smart creatures......which is why I think they are so fascinating.

The only thing I would caution against is placing the larger specimens in a cheap 10 gallon float glass tank. A piece of acrylic placed in the bottom should prevent any problems.

Megan,
i'm LOVIN' that peacock.
FWIW , i agree...it does appear to be a female. be careful...mantis keeping is VERY addictive. next thing you know, you'll have another, and another...

*realizing just how fortunate it is to share the same hobby as Renee*
our trouble is that there's not really any restraint where the hobby is concerned...
