emerald crabs and coraline algae
hi i have an emerald crab and i bought a lot of fiji premium rock...and it seems like my emerald is eating it. a large amount of spots that were once purple are now white. it started when i added him. and i saw him picking at it? anyone know whats wrong?or any ideas of another thing that is making it dissapear? and there is a small patch of hair algae that i was hoping he would eat too.
thanks
MARK

To me it sounds like after your rock was exposed to air the coraline started to die off. It happens to my powerheads when I take them out to clean them. Most likely it will start to grow back as the tank matures.

I had 2 red mithrax crabs that did the same thing. I had to remove them. They were completely cleaning coraline covered rock to pure white.
I also have a small green one without any problems. I think it just happens with some crabs. I would get rid of it.

While they prefer hair algae, emerald crabs will eat purple coraline algae as well, especially if there is not enough hair algae to feast on.
