Question Sea Hare Inquiry?

Hello everyone, I recently went into the Local Pet Shop and found that they had two Sea Hares for sale. I'm hoping that they are still their because I was interested in having them as a pair since my research indicates that they are extremely efficient algea eaters (especially hair algae) and only live for about 1 year. I was hoping for the pair in hopes that they would mate before they die and produce offspring to continue the cycle and to protect my investment. My only question is that I stumbled across a page that said they were not reef safe. Is their any validity to this statement before I spend my money? Thanks for the assistance everyone.

JBD,

There are many species of Sea Hare. Are you talking large as in 6" or small as in 1" to 2"?

One like this?

Or one like mine, below?

Mine, about 1 1/2", is totaly reef safe in my experience. A great addition to the aquarium because of it's appetite for algae.

Jay,

Here is my sea hare thread Sea Hare
It was about 2" long and did a good job eating the HA that I had. I don't know about them mating but maybe Phillip, who works with them professionally, will jump in here.
