Has anyone ever tought about makig a contest. for the most thanks? in a mounth. I think itd be cool but if you where cheating you couldent particapate. And the thansk reset every mounth. I know its not the purpose of the thanks button. But i still think itd be cool. Like every member has 5 thanks a mounth. So you get to thank 5 people about info they gave you. And Maybe you'd get like I dono A frag or some coral Nothing big. But for the thanks it will be like Thanks this mounth:44444 thanks ever:44444 I think itd encourage more people to thank. And limiting it to only 5 thanks will prevent cheating =( But if a member runs out of thanks and they see that there not going to just one person. And there not cheating. If they send a PM to an admin they can send them 5 more thanks. I think it would boost are Members but to win you must have 75post+ and if some one wins and doesent have that second place gets the prize. I know its kinda a lame idea but i was on a FW forum before i came here and they had almost the same thing.
That sounds neat It would probly get more people to say thanks more. I dont know what anyone else would think of it maybe theyll chime in soon great idea.
Sorry, I was AFK quite a bit the last couple weeks. I think that this is an idea that has potential although maybe it would be more for adding to someone's reputation. The thanks button is really kind of like a shortcut So, instead of saying thanks in a post you can just save time and click on the thanks button. I am not sure about prizes though. Most of the sites that offer prizes are pretty massive.
Hopefully will get there ... Maybe we should all recurit more on like Youtube. I see alot of stuff on youtube for Reefbuzz.com Maybe advertise us in some Mounthly magizenes

I'm all for contests, especially ones that are equal to the newbie to master reefer. I think Jace is on to something tho. Maybe it could be a start small project. Maybe we could look into making shirts or something. You could have the cost offset via sponsor. This way its something cool we can wear, won't die in transit, and is something fairly inexpensive to do in a short run. Heck I even think a 1-or 2 color would be groovy. How about bumper stickers

we have thought about that, but that would make the thanks button more of a popularity contest than a useful tool for people to go by. the only reason that it was activated is so new members can have a way to research the people that are replying to their questions.
also the prizes could not be anything live ... the shipping on live coral or fish would seriously drain TRs operation account, and it is a member contribution account ... so it does not really generate a ton of money.

I do think, Jace, that the basis of your suggestion "use the thanks and reputation () buttons" needs to be embraced by our community! The 2 are not the same. The "thanks" button should be used more liberally. For instance, when someone says your tank looks great, instead of making another post saying thanks, you can click on the thanks button in their post. Or, if you notice someone making a great response to someone else's question you may click on the thanks button instead of making a post. On other hand if someone gives you good advice you can click on the beneath their name and add to their reputation.
The buttons are there for you to use to let people know when others have been helpful and have given you good advice. Like Bobby said, it should not be a popularity contest.
yes, good suggestion, but as stated it would quickly turn in to a imoral contest and peopel woudl be boosting themselves and/or there friends.. it always happens with posts counts and re status.
thats is why i refrain from using those..
Reputation was turned off for the longest time until i felt the community was mature enough to not abuse that..
if i find a way to give each member a "set number" of votes that would work well, but right now that is not an available option.
