Question Problem getting videos to play

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this site and I am having problems getting videos to play. Windows media keeps telling it can not play the video. Media will let me play talking pod casts but not videos.
Can someone help me get this to work. I am not that great working with computers just to let you know.

Thanks for the help<
Doug

Welcome to TR, Its great to have you here.

What i would try first is downloading and installing iTunes first. You can click here to download iTunes for free.
Apple - iPod + iTunes

The reason why windows media player will play the podcasts and not the vidcasts is because the podcast is MP3 format and the videos are M4V format which i beleive is Mpeg 4 format and i cant remember the codec the Rob uses while recording the vidcast. Try itunes, I like it alot better the windows media player and on my personal PC vidcasts only play using iTunes. I too get the same error.

Let us know how it works and if you have any questions for problems let us know. Again Welcome to Talkingreef

Welcome to TR Doug!

Just get iTunes and you shouldn't have any problems.

awesome doug, glad its working for ya..

and just FYI,
the videos are encoding using Apples H.264 codec and are optimized for playback on Video iPods, which is why you need Quicktime or iTunes

So I have a Windows Mobile 5 device (my pod)

I don't want to view this on my PC but on my "mobile device". Not everyone is in love with an iPod. I use a Windows Mobile 5 device and would like to have an option to use this device and not an iPod.

Rob, for those of that have other devices, what can you do to help? WMV files as an option would be great and just to give equal time, how about RealMedia?

Not everything multimedia was invented by Steve Jobs.

you are more than welcome to convert the video into any format you wish.
and while i do love apple and there products, understand i am only following the current podcast standards by releasing the video in this format.
this is the format 99% (i know, not all, but just about all) podcasters use.

also, by using the MPEG 4 with H.256 Encoding, i am making the videos as high quality as possible while maintaining small file files sizes, other standards such as regular WMV, real, or mpg would have much larger files sizes.

also note i am not releasing the audio shows in AAC but in standard MP3, further showing my standardization.

im sorry, if its harsh in any way, but please understand, i have thousands of people that download this show every week, i do my best to provide the format that covers as many of them as possible, i cant release multiple formats of every show, i dont have the time or the server bandwidth to do so.

but as i mentioned, you are free to convert to any format you wish.

It is is a hassle

If I can find the H.256 codec at a reasonable price I might consider it. I am more of a power PC user than most so I know I can create a Virtual PC and install the iTunes to at least view the videos without screwing up my main system. Too bad that I will not be able to use my Treo.
