New Partnership Announcement

This week Talkingreef is officially announcing its partnership with a great new organization. Talkingreef will be partnering with Project DIBS. Never Heard of Project DIBS you say? Well you will. Project DIBS is a collaborative effort that is more than 2 years in the works. This project is being headed up by none other than our good friend and frequent guest Brian Plankis. Over the Last few months i have been working very closely with Brian to help him bring this project to the public. And now i would like to share with you some information in Brian's own words:

Talkingreef and Project DIBS have many similar goals and we will be working together to find ways to improve the saltwater aquarium hobby.

Project DIBS Mission Statement:
The mission of the Desirable Invertebrates Breeding Society (Project DIBS) is to create an online community collaborating on openly sharing knowledge on how to breed marine invertebrates. Gaps in the knowledge of these animals will be used to design science experiments to be conducted in K-12 and post secondary educational institutions. This community will also be utilized to provide concrete ways any hobbyist can help the project with the ultimate goal of maximizing the distribution of captive bred invertebrates and increasing their availability in local fish stores.

Rob has agreed to help with the first science experiment in a high school classroom beginning in the Spring of 2007. He will be supporting the classroom experiment by providing podcasting services where the students, classroom teacher, Rob and I will go over the experiment the students are conducting. Rob has also generously donated to Project DIBS to help finance some of the technology components of the website and is providing web hosting services.

I am very excited to be working with Rob and I see many ways Project DIBS and Talkingreef can benefit from each other in the future. As soon as Rob and I can work on a schedule, we will be doing a podcast to explain Project DIBS in greater detail. Until then you can go to this thread that will explain Project DIBS Mission Statement and Goals:

http://www.projectdibs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3

You are invited to join the project and feel free to ask me any questions here on Talkingreef or over on my website.
As hobbyists working together, we can advance the hobby and find a better way

Cheers,

Brian Plankis

Glad to see a fellow invert lover Funny you should ask if you can help, because I've designed the project with several ways people can help. You can get involved as much or as little as you like.

To help people understand how they can help, I have created a forum on my website that lists ways people can help. Check it out at:

I'm so excited to finally be "public" with this project. If anyone has questions, I'm more than happy to help!

Brian

Brian, after reading the information at www.projectdibs.com I am willing to help out anyway I can. I will signup as a breeder within the next few hours. I think you idea is a great one, both in principal and size, however anything we do to help conserve what we have is a good thing. +

I must say though I am rather selfish and I would like to do this so I can advance my knowledge in regards to inverts and there habits and as a secondary measure assist you in your conservation efforts!

Thats great! You'll be our first breeder in Ohio! As long as you are selfish and help the project, I don't mind One of the reasons I started this project was to advance my knowledge of invertebrates as well
