Pat,
First clean the glass inside and out! Try shooting without a flash. If that does not provide enough light, keep your camera at an angle to the glass so the flash doesn't bounce back into the lens. Keeping the lens close to the glass can also help prevent glare from the flash.
Pick a coral or something that won't move, keep the camera at the same distance away from the tank and play with the camera settings. (If you have a tripod put the camera on it so nothing but the setting changes.) You might try the close up setting, which usually looks like a flower, first.
