Wow I was just calculating on how much I have to save and its a pretty big # like $913.00 I have a very good feeling I can make this in a year if I stick to my guns and save money like a squirrel saves nuts. As soon as crosscountry is over I am right into a job.
J, I hope to see you there and wish you the best of luck saving.

then remember... only marry when you're sure... cause its got to be worth it (hows that for fatherly advice! huh)
~J
I certainly will. It will be a long time before I marry and I will make sure I date for about 2 years before I decide to marry.

I was going to but even with 24 hour special delivery the USPS would have them battered, bruised and busted.
They were better off left in my care.

Thanks Ampage, its always a pleasure seeing what I missed out on .
I appreciated your time bud thats for sure. !
Admittedly, by the pictures, some sizing definitely looks decent, & some would say decent value for money no doubt about it , however im really not a fan of the price hiking or worst, trader fixing. Overhead mark-up & hence the on-costs doesn't even come into play anymore Ampage , These days its purely just to flease the hobbiest with a good serving of BS hype on "whats in".The price of corals is based on supply, demand and size. The above corals are mostly Aussie colonies. Their size alone dictates high prices.
Its just another reminder of money itself, its intrinsically linked with mass communication principles & nothing ....but a fassard.......! based purely on "common perceptions" that are strategically channeled by those whom control the most interests.
I sit back and smile cause many of our members corals are coming from Oz & its great! I really do think its great to see you guys getting excited over them. However the biggest problem is its you guys that are really getting ripped over nothing more than the flavour of the month corals!
Im speaking from one mate to another here Ampage & mean no disrespect when i enquire or hope that when you provide your own supply & demand frag fruits, that you meet common ground between the hobbiest & the businessman!

I agree with your sentiments about pricing these flavor-of-the-month Ausse corals. There are dealers who carve out a single head and demand outrageous money for it. Also agree their fleecing the hobbyist. BUT, if the hobbyist refused to pay those prices the price would come down. Greed, in any form, is not healthy. The demand to have these Ausse corals is greater than the supply, I guess, and the dealers are taking advantage of it.
First of all, I will never carve out a single head of coral. That in itself is a form of greed. Secondly, my sources of Ausse coral are quoting me very decent prices. If they hold true to their word, my pricing will be well below those currently advertised.Originally Posted by V

heh all this talk about frags, and watching the local club sites (including my own) I notice that frags alone is the big flavour of the month.
The hobby seems to have turned into one big garage sale, doesnt anybody want to eventually reach the status of "established tank" anymore?
On the subject of the ozzie price fix phenomena... V, you ship me some ozzie pods to culture and I bet I make a killing!
~J

AWWWW that looks like us!!
I will take you up on sharing your pop...
I am sure I will not be good - I will most likely be on my own while visiting FL and will most likely have to find somewhere to boot scoot the nights away!!
I live in Gainesville (north central Fl) and I'm about three hours from there, I will be there next Sept. for sure. Where do they normally stage this show (location) and is it the same place every year? Are the prices decent or is it mostly for people that like to browse?
Don't sweat the small stuff...
OK, I'm paid up! I can't wait to see everyone!
Jerry, the location varies from year to year. I think prices on some things are pretty good and others are high. There is a LOT of variety. The last day things are picked over but the prices are great. You will see all the newest equipment and supplies. There are lots of freebies!
