I think it is cruel to have any kind of tang in less than a six foot long tank. I saw a tank at the local fair last week in a 18 inch tank on display, with a big yellow tang in it, it was sad. Tang's of all breeds are foragers, that like to swim along the reef for miles per day picking along the reef. You must give them ample room to swim and feed in order to be happy and healthy. Unless they are new born, yet will quickly mature and become distressed.

    Pat,

Please don't fall into the category of being a follower. Just because you "see" someone else doing something doesn't make it right. If I jumped off a cliff to my death, would you follow? Of course not! I'm glad you came to us and asked. I know you know better. You are more responsible and smarter than that dude.

    As an add on note...

You "see" the LFS has a new shipment of six Yellow Tangs, on display in a twenty gallon. Not good either. But they are in a different situation than you. They can't afford to set up proper sized display aquariums for all the various rules governing good husbandry of fish. They also expect to move those fish into their customer's more appropriate settings.

Even though it's tempting to follow the idiot, I know, Pat, you will do the right thing.

This thread actually reminds me of an LFS 2 miles away from my house. They had a total 9 unicorn tangs in a 40 gallon tank. It was sad considering the tanks that held macros was bigger. Same going with the tanks for damsels and eels.
