    Gimmito's 450 L-shaped display

    Evening all,

I'm in the midst of setting up a 450 L-shape tank (6' x 4' x 32"). It's made of 1" acrylic in the front and right side & 3/4" on left side and back. It has a 2" tubular steel around the perimeter that is powder coated. Gen of KritterTanks built it and did a great job !

Here are some of the equipment I'm thinking of using:

Lights-400 watt coralvue dimmable ballast w/lumenbright reflectors.

Protein Skimmer-Reeflo Prokit , Royal Exclusiv Alpha 300, or the H&S 250 in sump model (to save some space).

Calcium Reactor-Deltec PF601S (keeping mostly sps w/some lps).

Denitrator-H&S 150SR (I do like fish and would like to keep some shoals of anthias, but would like to keep nutrients down).

Return Pumps- 2 Reeflow Dart Golds (I'm thinking of using a Oceans Motions or manifold).

Contoller-Reefkeeper Elite or New Apex Aquacontroller.

Water Movement-An array of Vortech Pumps and Tunze Streams.

Sump-100 gal Eco system sump (I don't know if I'm going to actually use miracle mud)

Refugium-I would like to employ a gravity fed fuge on the upper left part of the tank.

That's all for now...I would appreciate your inputs !!

    Jim

p.s. Pic's can be seen at Kritter Products (last 2 tank shots are mine).

    Hi Jim,

It sounds like a very nice setup. It looked like the last 2 tanks in the "Special Shape" category were corner tanks. Was I looking in the wrong section?

    Hi CarmieJo,

It's actually in the open top/standard aquariums section.

    Rayme07,

I hope to post some pic's as soon as I can (I'm in the middle of trying to finish a remodel). I like your saying....I will be taking it "slow" with this project. Once I get this bad boy set up, I want to go the Steven Pro recommendation of letting the tank go fishless for 6 months to build up the pod population, etc.

Jim, I am am fan of corals before fish. I haven't read Steven's perspective (I'll search for it later) but here is a good article by Eric Borneman The Building of a Reef (tank) on the same subject.

Awesome! Can't wait to see pics! I'm with Carmie on corals first. If I had it to do over again, that's how I'd do it.
I ought to be reading from casebooks, but reefs are so much more interesting!

Hey, Cool! There are a few of us in this part of the world =) I wonder if we should get together for a bulk shipping club. It would really bring prices down on livestock...

    Stefalopod,

Do you belong to BARS ? They usually have group buys on a number of dry/live goods.

What LFS do you frequent ?

You know, I keep trying to get added, but bars never approves my add. I've tried to sign up a couple of times.

I mostly go to lucky ocean. It's small, but they'll order stuff for you, and the owner won't see you anything he doesn't think you can keep. He also tends to throw stuff in when I buy anything.

The truth is that there are several LFSs that I haven't been to around here.

Steve is a good guy over at Lucky Fish, he will usually steer you the right way regarding fish & corals

You might want to checkout Chris at Aquatic Central over on Ocean ave. And Ocean Treasures over on Duboce st.

I'm not sure if you have to pay dues when you register at BARS.
