Picture of right overflow box. Notice a removable blue acrylic cover will be used on the overflows. 1 1/2" holes were not cut in the bottom (due to stand) and will be forty fived.

Full shot of left overflow w/ cover. The wire hanging is for a water leak alarm. I'm also roughed out for a web cam in the future.

Rear of tank w/removable blue acrylic sheet. The sheet will be painted black on the top and bottom, so the vortechs will not be as noticeable. Of course I will have to do some routing so the vortechs will go on the tank and not the acrylic. The sheet will be held w/magnets in picture.

There is no elevator to success in marine tanks. You have to take the stairs.

For a "Slow" build, you are sure making rapid progress! That is one beefy tank! I like the L-shape, It's looking really cool. Can't wait to see it with water in!

    Thanks Tom.

I was inspired by Steve Weast's 500 gal display and wanted a 4' deep tank. Unfortunately I had a post to deal with and thus the L-shape. I'll build some type of island w/overhang in that right corner so it won't be noticeable. I'm looking to add a 4' x 2' x 12" frag tank while I'm at it.

Just got back from Comic Con. We go every year. I work in Animation. I am not a comic book fan per say, but several people who work with me are. My wife and I do collect original art from some comic book artists, but that does not really qualify as being a true fan.

The show was cool, but there weren't as many Storm Trooper and Boba Fett costumes this year.

As far as selling is concerned, one of my coworkers collects, but I am not sure what. If you want to PM me a list of your stuff, I can pass it by him. He may know where to sell as well...

I would think eBay would be a good outlet, no?

Thanks for the info...I cringe at the thought of trying to catagorize thousands of comics.

I've been reading up on the new Royal Exclusiv alpha 300 cone skimmers. I talked to Josh at Premium aquatics and they are running them on a 600 gal sps tank. He compared the alpha 600 to a bubble king super marin.

Anybody have one of these bad boys ?

A fellow reefer in my club recommended some dry rock from Live Rock - Tampa Bay Saltwater Aquacultured Live Rock They have a site at RC and their stuff looks extremely cool. It's a buck fifty per pound to boot ! I'm thinking aout 400 lbs of the stuff will do. I'm looking for 20+ lbs show pieces that can make caves and overhangs. The guy told me the rock stacks so well that fiberglass rods aren't needed. I think I would do it anyways...nothing worse than a rock slide in a tank !

My coworker mentioned that you may want to consider Heritage Auctions for selling your comic books. I assume they'll take a comission, but it may still be better than hocking them elsewhere.

He's never used the HA auction site; he just receives mailers.

    good luck,

Technically they are Vertex skimmers that are built by Royal Exclusiv.

mojo~ on RC (and now on R2R) has reviewed a number of skimmers (from low end to high end. high end only as of recent), and seems to be getting new ones to review every day. He recently had some disappointing comments on the Alpha 250 (cannot recall the issue), but tried out a Alpha 170 and said it worked much better for him. He has a 90g tank that he feeds heavily IIRC; I am not sure about the suitability of the 250 for his system.

Reef Central Online Community - Skimmer Q&A Thread

Several other posters on this thread have Alpha, ATB or BK skimmers. Not sure where all the cash comes from to keep buying these top dollar skimmers - each time they upgrade (and they do so frequently) - they make me feel very poor...

I do know that those red dragon pumps are VERY expensive if you need to replace one someday...

I would talk to John (or pm ichthyman) at i-Tech. He could probably recommend one of the i-Tech cones (the 400 or the 'Beast") or build you a custom one. Not quite the uber-quality construction of the BK and recent ATBs, but well built - probably on par with H&S, and come with less expensive (than red dragon) but high performing Tunze Hydrofoamer pumps and from what I've read VERY well performing skimmers that do not cost as much:

i-Tech Forums - Powered by vBulletin

The iTech 100 may be my next (and final) skimmer. Just have to muster up the gumption and sump space for a $450 skimmer.

I only have a 55g tank, so my needs aren't exactly in your league...LOL.
