I've have heard of people using HOB for fuges. I would hang it on the sump so it is easy to run a reverse photoperiod. This helps to stabilize pH. Macro growth varies with the species.
Hi all, I am limited by the space I have for my reef tank, I've been dwelling on the fact that I would love to run a Refugium for my tank to help keep my water parameters in good levels and to provide a good food source for the herbivore fish in my tank. as mentioned before, I am limited by space and have been thinking about taking a large HOB filter, removing the filter pads and placing Marco in the slots.
so my question (finally) is do you all think that is a fesible idea? I have a sump with LR and LS, but I don't have much room in it for Macro which as I've heard spreads pretty rapidly?
Thanks.
Tj.

Quite a few of the people over at nano-reef run HOB filters on their very small tanks. (I have a modded Aqua Clear on my 2 gallon.) I know there's a thread somewhere that shows exactly what to do, with pics, but I couldn't find it. I did find this, though, that might give you a place to start.

I found the link I was thinking about, the one on nano-reef.com about modding an AquaClear fuge.

Hope this helps!
I did something very similar with my 2 1/2 gallon although at the moment I don't have any chaeto in it. I don't have a good fuge light yet, that's on the list as soon as I get a round TUIT.
