    Halp!

A while back when my crab ate some polyps (Atleast i thought they were polyps) a couple days later, i noticed i had about 3 or 4 new polyps that had been growing pretty darn fast. Well, i was looking at my mushroom rock today, and noticed one of the polyps had a piece of mushroom in his mouth. Almost as if it were eating it. I took my stick and nudged it a little. The Polyp immediately let go of the mushroom, and retreated into itself. The mushroom now has a small chunk missing with some discoloration.

The two red circles are around the polyps, and the blue ones are the closed polyp, and the mushroom.

Please help me identify these things. And should i frag them off? or just kill them. I want to have just mushrooms on this rock.

I think they are zoanthids. You could try to peel them off the rock but they are plain so you may want to just zap them with some Joe's Juice.

Pearson we were writing at the same time. I thought the closed shot looked like a zoa. Either way if they were getting the mushroom I'd zap!

Okies. I am gonna try to peel them off first. I let all life in my tank live unless it poses a threat.
I dont have the money for joes juice, or anything else.
Any home remedies? Like boiled water? i think i also heard something that can be done with lemons. I have lots of those.

But dealing with my close quarters. How should i go about doing this? Get a syringe and directly inject? Or can i spray them like i do with boiling water.

    You'll have to inject them.

i get a syringe, fill with lemon juice, turn off all flow (powerheads, return pump)

then I let the tank settle for a minute
then I slowly squirt lemon juice right onto the aiptasia... they immediately retract.. then I do my best to hit them again retracted..

dont use too much at once cause it will mess with your PH

OK. im gonna get a syringe tomorrow. And make some lemon juice. Would it be better to take the rock out of the tank and put it in a bowl?

i leave it in the tank, less hassle..

if you can easily remove the rock then why not just take a lighter to the aiptasia... that works a lot better then lemon juice

Really? i will do that instead. I already had the rock out once to scrape off some of the aptasia. But its hard to reach them, and i dont think i got the whole foot. I just wanna make sure i get them off before more mushrooms start to grow. Dont wanna have to really really really watch what im doing.

well that and scraping them off doesn't really do anything... aiptasia use basal laceration for reproduction.. meaning any part of them can regrow an entire anemone... so if you scrape them off and leave even a single cell... its no good
