return plumbing from the base

hey guys.

got a couple of hard line questions if u please!

a tank with multi returns in the base only, with an overflow intake!
dont worry about bulkheads at this point. thinking along the lines of acrylic joint weldings

not wise i know to have returns from the base, but im experimenting on a cool project if i can pull it off!


1) whats the best known method to shut-off back flow with the above metioned with power cut out so it drops to the overflow only.?


2) howwould corals react to updraft circualtion only?

3)what corals are most likely to accept this system if they are perched on a tray a couple of inches above from the updrafts?

that will do for now, if i get the response im looking for, i'll build an experiment to work on next week.

do you mean it has built in over flows like a reef ready tank?

the overflow is not really what im thinkng about rob, means little to the overall project. just need to know about the returns on the bottom and wether im able to stop the water draining back in sump

this is just an experinment, their are 2 main targets im trying to assess,

1) is to see wether the returns can be plumbed into the bottom of a vessile and whats the most reliable means to stop the vessile from emptying if i turn the pumps off.
the holding vessile will have 30lts of water max, very little pressure.

2) and a couple of inches off the bottom of the vessile i have a plattform holding a single specimin piece of coral. two things here, how does a coral respond to an updraft current only, and what coral would people recommend that can deal with the updraft currents only.,

Or second that, if they dont handle upcurrents well, what down currents. so the vessile drains from the base, and the return is plumbed from the top.

this is not an experinment for a tank, i have a contempory design project that i want ether of these principles to apply. in from the top, out though the base, or in through the base, and out through the top.

jimbo, that link u posted really blew my skirt up.. the thought that dude put into the design phase was totally alien thinking my man!
got to admit, im honestly impressed with the magnitute in a domestic environment.!

& dont even get me started on that damn worm! looked like something out of a steven king movie!!!!!!!

this bloke has plumbed the base. but there is no break down of parts that i saw.
A buddy at the LFS handed me a personal contact of theirs. this bloke has a few supply companies around australia, but he's based 30min from me. its rumored that he & his buisness partner a total wiz with plumbing.
