    Overflow pipe

The overflow pipe that came with my tank has a interesting shape to it. My last one was like a upside down "J" not sure else hot to describe it. This one is straight with slots in it. Is there any benefit over the other? To me this straight one with the slots seems like it could cause a flood if the power cut off or something. Any thoughts...

I find that a bit odd. I would either replace the pipe or leave extra drainage room in the sump.
