You'll see a drop in pH if any change.
It sounds like it's off to a good start!
I checked mine nitrates after this post came back to life and my reef is at 0 on the API kit.

pH in the tank is 8.4. Effluent from the reactor is 7.4. It's a big drop, but about what I expected to see, as the ARM isn't capable of buffering it much beyond that. My pH runs a little high anyway, so I seriously doubt this is going to be an issue.

BTW, effluent nitrates are now reading 15 while than nitrates remain at roughly 10. The nitrate test kit is being fooled by trace amounts of nitrite in the effluent.

What is your drip rate? When they are cycling you often see a small spike in the nitrates on the effluent.

There is an easier way to start them, but it's smelly.

    It's slightly under one drip/second.

Ok, so I promised an update....sure, it has been a year, and the thing still works. Drip rate? more of a pour rate. I have been running it at just when the drip rates become a solid stream, degas it about once a month and my nitrate is lower than it has ever been, and I have been a slacker on water changes. So my verdict....the silly thing works, and works well. I feed it from a "T" off of my skimmer pump, so I really don't have to adjust the flow more than once a month or so. The rest of the system is working well too.

Yeah, V, I guess I had that coming. You know, 4 kids...all boys, all in sports, and that damn J.O.B. thing, it is really cutting into my personal life lately. I will try to be a tad more diligent. I am impressed that the same people are still here, and I am glad that you are all still in the hobby.

definitely understand that dude. Life can be a handful at the best of time. However look forward to you checking in just a "tad" more often ok. - We need the occasional loven too you know!

Yup, someone's got to keep the fires burning here, although unfortunately we have lost some of the old crew to the pages of time. Such is life, cut off a head & another grows.
Besides that, dont you think I relish the fact, that im first in line to be given the golden opportunity in offering really bad advice to the masses - Its not just a luxury given to newbie's exclusivity you know..lol

Sweet. Glad to see it's working for you. I was having a bit of trouble getting mine cycled, and when I put a fuge back in the mix, my 'trates dropped to 1-2 so I took the denitrator down. I'm sure a more well designed unit would have worked much better. Oh well, live and learn

Hey Phurst, you should of shot me a message. There are a couple of tricks to getting them to cycle smoothly.

I'm glad to see this post come back to life. I've started selling denitrators and I've seen some great success. Anyone interested shoot me a PM.

There is no elevator to success in marine tanks. You have to take the stairs.

The close up....I have had mine running for three weeks and it is a steady stream for flow....6 liters and hour(bout a 1 1/2 gallons)...cycles my 200g system in 5.5 days...I have 3 liters of sulfur and 1 liter of Arg....cost me 65-80 to build. Nitrates went from 80 to 10 in 3 days. I think thats where I would like to keep it, feeding 19 fish it's kinda not possible to get it lower w/o hurting them.
