As long as it doesn't prevent the fish from sleeping, and the nocturnal creatures from coming out, it's fine.
i just put in moon (mood) lighting in the 55 gallon, its 3 wide angle 12V leds, i think they may be too bright. it gets the shimmer on the bottom of the tank. i built the set-up out of an automotive accesory thing, and an old remote control car charger. its 14.3 volts in, 3.5 volts out to the 3 leds. now i can add another resister tothe 14v side, and subsequently lower the 3v side and dim the lighting. i would just add a potentiometer, but i dont have one. but i might be able to scavenge one. how bright is too bright? or is there such a thing?

**KEEP ME AWAY FROM SUPER GLUE ... i tend to glue my lips shut !!**
so it sounds like it trial and error. i put a potentiometer in place of the resistor, and dimmed the lights. all should be well now.
