I would keep feeding it what it eats but I worry about its teeth. Lets see if Puffy weighs in on this one.
Hi all - I am having trouble with my puffer eating and thought someone might have some ideas.
I have had him for right at a month.
He is in a 75g FOWLER with a baby banner fish.
I have bought him fresh shrimp with shell on - he won't touch it.
I bought him fresh clams and cut the shell for him, (gross me out - I don't eat seafood and here I am touching the stuff for my fishy babies), he won't touch them.
I then tried adding a little garlic for enticement purposes - he won't do it.
Then I got really gross and pulled the clam out of the shell and put it on a feeding stick and he came one time and turned away.
I tried frozen mysis shrimp - no deal.
I can't find live mysis shrimp locally.
I have put an emerald crab in the tank with him - he seems scared of it.
The only thing I can get him to eat are Peas and krill which I soak in Zoe.
He also will not eat it if you drop it in the tank he will watch it go by. If you put it on a feeding stick he goes after it viciously.
Does anyone have any other ideas.
Thanks in advance,
Rhonda

Thanks Carmie!
I have noticed him biting the live rock a lot so I am hoping that is helping for the moment.
I put baby snails in and so far he hasn't eaten them.
I tell you, he is worse that a child!!!
Thanks,
Rhonda
My pet store has a little baby porcupine puffer right now... he/she has gotten pretty sickly and small but latly within the last 3 days he has grown very found of eating live tiny feeder minos.... something to consider.... those live baby minos are the only thing that I have seen he/she eat in quite a while
Thanks, I will try that!!
Rhonda
Try soaking the food in garlic and selcon. Also get one of those algae clips and go to the grocery store and get raw shrimp - like the stuff we'd eat. Remember to peel off the shell. Attach the shrimp to the clip and let it stay in the aquarium. See if he tries to pick at it. Remove after a couple of hours.
