    What do "pods" look like?

I did a bunch of work on my tank over the weekend, including pruning the algae in my fuge. Tonight, I've got little (~2mm) white things crawling around on the glass in my DT. It occurred to me that they might be copepods that were shaken loose when I pruned the algae. I may try and snap some pics later, but I thought I'd throw the post up to see if anyone can ID these guys from my description.

    Thanks,
    -Chris

Little white bugs on the glass sound like copepods to me! Your fish should be enjoying the bonus.

New tanks often get an outbreak of a tiny white worm that appears on the glass. What you have could possibly be this worm. I don't have a clue as to what they are called. They are harmless and disappear after a short period of time. Copepods are larger and easily distinguishable from the worms, as Copepods look like miniature shrimp.

I snapped this one this morning from my DT. These guys are what prompted this thread originally. Not a great pic, but not too bad considering it was a handheld shot using manual focus on my little digicam.

Tip to tail, it's about 2mm.

That's a copepod I believe. Don't they look like little white spiders when smaller? Sometimes I've heard them described as "a vicious streak a mile wide!" and "nasty, big, pointy teeth!" lol....coun't resist the Monty Python joke

i went out yesterday and bought,
    1, nannocloropsis aculata, phytoplankton
    2, tetraselmis,
    3, isocrisis galbana
    4, rotifers

does anyone have any other recomendations for anything else i should be using, on the sides of the bottles it just says pour straight into the tank, but on a web site i visited reefworks.com
it says to put them basically in a plastic container in the windowsill with an airline and cultivate for about 3-4 weeks, i dont know which to do any ideas please,

You can do both, feed it directly and culture it.

I don't grow phyto so you might want to give these a listen to learn the ins and outs.

Me thinks it's time for another flood of pod pics........

    Copepods....

    female with eggs

Medium size isopods... also found on the glass.... but also other surfaces... just not as visible. This is the very common munnid isopod.

    Female with eggs...

    Male...

Male who had been eating some cyano...

Male "sitting" on a female waiting for her to molt so he can "give" her his family fortune. After she molts and he deposits... he leaves her in the dirt.

    Two males fighting...

And, here's the amphipod that you see typically running over bottom surfaces and such. The larger of the group.

I have hundreds if not thousands of the copepods in my 35 DT as well as my 10 gallon I don't know what to do with tank. There are also dozens of the amphipods in both tanks. Haven't seen any of the isopods, but that doesnt mean they aren't there. I love to watch them scurrying across the glass and LR in the tanks. lets me know the tanks are healthy.
