Hello Highdesertreef! What are your tank inhabitants?
I would like to start making my own Frozen food for my tanks and was wondering what a good recipe is. I am considering using a mix of:
1/2 lb wild salmon
1/4 lb bay scallops
1/4 lb 70-90 shrimp
5 cubes of Mysis
3 cubes brine shrimp
Does this sound like a good mix or should I be doing something different? I would like to add some sort of veggies but not sure what to use.

While waiting for your stocking list I will say I'd skip the brine shrimp as it has very little nutrition. I'd add vitamins and garlic.

Selcon or Marine Zoe are both good.

Okay. Anything else I should add.
Should I add more mysis in place of the brine shrimp?
I add some nori and Cyclopeeze. I think rather than go with more mysis I would use the Cyclopeeze. I also buy my mysis in a flat pack. It is a bit cheaper and I find it easier to use than the cubes which always are too big. I use white fish but salmon is probably better as it is higher in omega 3's. I guess you could go half and half to add variety.

what are cyclopeeze and wha benifit are they? I keep hearing about them but have no idea what they are.
if you have corals ... i would highly recommend adding DTs oyster eggs, and Cyclopeeze. For the fish and corals i would also add things like plankton, reef plankton, krill, and oysters or scallops to the mixture.
also, if you blend it and think that it is fine enough ... go ahead and blend it for a coupe of more minutes. you want everything to be edible to the smaller fish.

CYCLOP-EEZE® : Home are little micro-crustaceans that most fish go crazy over. One shop around here always feeds Cyclopeeze when you ask to see a fish eat. They are small and can actually be taken by filter feeders and corals. DT'S PLANKTON FARM - Natural Reef Diet Oyster Eggs & Live Marine Phytoplankton are a great coral food.

what is the difference between cyclop-eeze and this....San Francisco Bay Brand Cyclops Nano-Tank Food 50g (1.75oz) (Saltwater Aquarium Supplies > Food > Frozen & Refrigerated > For Fish/ Corals > Cube Tray )
I went on a LFS hunt for cyclop-eeze and couldn't find nowhere...
looks like pretty much the same thing, but the stuff i get is a very dark but bright red.

I have not seen the SFB product so I am not able to say. All of the independent LFS around here carry the Cyclopeeze but I am no the other side of the county so that doesn't mean anything.

I did find the stuff that is dried in a can.. is that good/same? has anybody used it?
It is the same product. I have never used it but I have heard that it has to soaked a while to make it not float. I was actually thinking of buying the freeze dried for the next time I make food. It would avoid thawing and refreezing and the loss of nutritional value associated with the same.
BTW, DML08 to TR!

thanx.. carmiejo.. I just posted a pic on the pic thread to introduce myself... I found this site about 2 weeks ago, got onto Itunes downloaded all the podcast and have been listing to them at work.. I find it odd that when I would check the site whatever i was listing to earlier that's what was being discussed on here(past shows).. like 2 day I was listening to the podcast about making your fish food.. weird!!
there is a forum for podcast questions and feedback. if you think anything was left out ... post there and we try to go over the questions in the forums here.

Okay so the dried would be just fine. I will have to order some when I make my first batch.
Here is my latest batch of mush.
Peace

It was fun but definitely messy and stinkey. Each timeI make it it is a bit different depending on the fresh available seafood. The seafood market first laughed at me and then became very helpful.
I'm almost done with one package so it is almost time to open package two.
Peace
