Depends on the metal. Did you drop something in the tank?

I did, I uncovered a razorblade as I was 'redecorating'
Ive had a line of bluish/green sand that Ive been wondering about, and some of my element levels dont make sense...
could be related? The razorblade went missing about a week ago, these oddities have occurred since

    Related do you think?

Maybe. At least it's iron, there are way worse things you could have dropped in. I recall reading a horror story about a guy who was wiring up some lights or fans or something and clipped iff a 1/4" piece f copper wire into his tank, behind his rocks and into the sand

I guess I'd see if anything is different now that it's gone. Some people intentionaly dose iron to help with their macro, so it may not do any serious harm.

Razor blades are made from stainless steel so the amount of metal leached into your water is probably minimal. The bluish/green stain in the sand is probably from the metal. Would it skew your element levels? Maybe. It's good you found it. You need to quit shaving your legs around the tank.

Sorry, just having a little fun with you, Laura!

LOL remember the peice of hair my clown had difficulty with at each end??!!

Im glad I found it gently! That blue/green had me perplexed! Hmmm... Lets see if I can get some readings back to normal. It wouldnt surprise me if one could lead to the other, rust cant be good, it was pretty rusty

yeah, there are a ton of different "grades" of stainless steel. i would assume that they are made of a low grade stainless. dont ask how i know so much about metals ... i have 35 welding certifications and no one wants to pay me more than $10 an hour to start !! needless to say ... i do not weld anymore. lol

I read a story like that too. A fan fell out of the housing into the tank. Not good..

Any one know where to get tweezers and such made of a high grade stainless? The ones I bought from MSC/J&L and the local ACE all rust, even if I religiously rinse them. Please help

Try a medical supply place and get surgical grade stainless.

or better yet use condense plastic ones.

If it were me, i'd scoop that blue green section out & dump it.
Clearly its translatable effects can be seen on the surrounding environment.
it was only a razor so your taking away a huge surface area
