    How much salt

    Hi there,

I have my Nano at a temperature of 30 C and think i might have a little to much salt in the mix. Can any one tell me what the best Hydrometer reading is for this temp please.

    Thanks Fishface

The first thing I'd recommend to you is to get your temp down to 28 C. At 30 your tank is 86 F and that is too high. You have no room for error. In fact any critters in there are, more than likely, suffering. Corals begin to bleach around that temp so it is little consequence what the salinity is. You should aim for 1.025 salinity and a temp closer to 78 - 80 degrees F, 26 to 28 C.

What do you have in the tank for critters?

    What are your water parameters?

If you use a refractometer (instead of a hydrometer), it corrects for the temperature. Shoot for 1.024 to 1.026 for a reef. It can be a bit lower for a fish only tank. 30 is too high! Temp should be 25 to 27 C. (78 - 82 F)

Thanks for the advice. I have never had a aquarium before and was not told about how hard nano reefs where till i had read a few books. Its about 6 weeks old now and all seems to be working great. I thought the temperature might be a little high but everyone had a different opinion when it comes to this hobby. I have reduced the temp now and removed some of the salt. Thanks again.
