Depends on what your current pressure is. there will be some drop in pressure doing it that way. Do you have a pressure guage? You'll want an absolute minimom of 50 psi going into the unit.
I just purchased an RO/DI unit from the filter guys. They are local so i didn't have to pay to ship . I have a T and will be branching off of my cold water supply line to my washer. Then running the one line to the washer and one to the RO/DI unit. My question is that I would like to mount the unit in my fish room which is approximately 20' or less away on the next floor up. Can i run a single line from the supply line coming off off the cold water and run a line 20' up to my RO/DI unit? Or would i need an inline pump to keep the pressure up?
thanks,
Kassun

Thanks, Phurst for the quick reply.
i would mount the RO in the room along with the washer and run a 1/4 inch poly line to the tank. The nice thing about keeping the unit in the utility room is that every thing you need is there including the drain which you can share with the washer.
Or you can waste the water into the washer so its ready to add some clothes too. I have never done this, but I have heard its a good way to save some water.
I have Attention Defic...HEY LOOK, A FISH!
I stopped off at Menard's tonight and bought all my fittings, extra tubing, and a pressure gauge. I was very excited to get it installed, but when I thought nothing could go wrong, I picked up 3/8 x 1/4 in side diameter tubing and fittings. An wouldn't you know there closed now. Well back tomorrow to get the next size down. ""Murphy's Law"" gotta love it

is the washer on the same floor as the fish room. if it's downstairs i'm not sure an ro/di would be able to work with the head loss going upstairs. i would think it would be better to run the cold water upstairs in the fish room and hook the ro unit up there then just run the waste water line back down to the washer if you wanted to go that route.
Well it all worked out great. I ran 25' of 1/4 in tubing from my cold line off of my washer up 3 feet, over 18' and up 4' to our 1st floor. Total pressure is 95 psi on the pressure gauge. Our water pressure in our house is insane. I included some pictures of my new and 1st ro/di unit. Bought it locally from the filter guys for 145.00.
Nice! Wish I had that kind of pressure!
