I just have to throw this in. I had a dream last night about panicking to save a fish , it is only comming back to me now, I think there was abroken tank involved, it wasnt mine, but I managed to rescue the hippo tang in a paper cup. I was panicking to get it to the water, and when finally released, it looked just like a baby hippo swimming away! Weird. I know it had to do with reading threads about hippo tangs and broken glass on tanks!! (OK, is this what I am to expect now? I must be obsessed, dreaming about saving fish!)

    Smile Message to Amphibious

Hi Everyone, I googled baby tangs today because I was considering a baby regal for my 60 gallon which I recently converted from freshwater to my 1st saltwater tank. My freshwater fish now have a beautiful 120 gallon tank and are very happy. I deal with two fish stores, one says a tang would be fine the other says probably not. I have read the same conflicting opinions here and on other sites. I decided today to post a reply for the first time ever to thank Amphibious for his wonderful explanation and experience. I will not buy a tang until I can accomodate him. Also, I hoped to get some advice on what fish would be happy in my tank. I have some time to decide as I am just at the adding liverock stage.

    Thank You

    Hi Missy and to TR!

Dick is the best and you won't go wrong following his advice. What are you aiming for in your tank? Fast zippy fish, slower moving fish, fish that want to hang out in basically one place, etc. What about colors and patterns? Do you think that you will want corals? Have you ever used copper based meds in the tank? Sorry for all the questions but they will help us to make reasonable recommendations.

    I agree with carmie.

There is no elevator to success in marine tanks. You have to take the stairs.

    reply to CamieJo

Sorry for the delay. My freshwater tank is very active so for this tank I was hoping for something more peaceful. I like fish with personality. Not sure about patterns. From what I am learning I have quite a bit of time before any decisions have to be made so all input is welcome. The tank has never been treated with copper.

How do you feel about fish that have to be fed live food?
