Hello Robbie and to TR. I think a FOWLR with non-reef safe fish would be cool. An LPS or softie tank would also be nice.
Bobby was nice enough to get me a 40 gallon breeder for a steal......but now I'm not sure what to keep in it.
I'm looking for something different, something to learn on. I already have a 90g mixed reef.
I'm also looking to go fairly cheap.....i.e. probably no halides. Might do another Fowlr (non-reef safe fish?)......another idea was an anenome and clown tank....I don't much care for anenmoes though.
I considered using it in my current system for algae or frags, but I don't really have room in my sump room for that.
Ideally I would like to incorporate this into my current setup to avoid buying another skimmer, but that may be more than my current skimmer could handle.
So...........I'm looking for some ideas.......something different, unique even.

Glad Bobby was able to help you out, he's a great guy. Boy, that's a tough question! You could always get a HOB skimmer if room was a problem. And if you're board with the regular reef setting, have you ever thought about doing a marine planted tank? I have seen a few that were experimental projects and they look pretty fascinating. Just an idea as you said "unusual or unique."
Spelling correction "Bored." Now I feel better.
LPS and sofites aren't bad - I have a couple of each in my big tank.
Maybe I'll move a couple from the bigger tank into the new tank.
It will probably be a little while before I set up the tank......the stand isn't an issue, I can build that, but buying the lights, CL pump, etc etc etc.......
Robbie
you mean to tell me it took you a whole minute to proof read..lol
welcome RK, hmmm doesn't really roll off the lips to well, R2D2 maybe, nope to wacked...realwilliekechup um this isnt scrabble....... how bout freewillie, sweet!

How about an octopus tank. They're really amazing creatures, and don't require lights. Theres a hole site dedicated to keeping them.

150 gallon mixed reef
55 gallon refugium
100 gallon sump
have you looked into a cold water tank?
You may need a chiller but lights would not be a problem. I found this link through one of the "other reefing podcasts", i have only skimmed over but looks pretty neat.

That was a totally awesome link Bill. The cold water tanks are highly fascinating and he had some awesome specimens. What I really enjoyed was going through his warm water reef, had excellent brainstorming there and his gallery was something out of this world. Fish heaven! Thanks!
That 850+ is sick.
I don't know if this is the one,? but I read about a tank crash that fits that description.
From what I read-his skimmer drains directly into a floor drain and he has something set up to rinse the collection cup twice a day automatically. Well, he cleaned his skimmer pumps? Right everyone does but with the pumps clean it was working better and skimmed over 250 gallons out of his tank. He was called to work unexpectedly and was gone for 14 hours. when he got back it was after 10pm and he found the tank.
He mixed some salt with tap water and dechlorinater and it nuked his tank (he thinks the dechlorinater was old. I think there is a thread on reef central?
make sure you check "the worm incident" too it is freaky!
