    29 gal Nano tank lighting

Ok, so I am setting up a 29 gal 'ish nano. Measurements are l/w/h 24"/12"/20". I was looking at gwen's old thread and noticed that she had the supod 150 watt hqi on her 10 gal nano. Since my tank is twice hers, could I get away with the sunpod 250 watt Hqi lamp?? My tank is 20" deep I want to penetrate to the bottom for clams but dont want to risk overkill on light intensity, what are your thoughts?

Secondly, does anyone know if the sunpod can go directly over an open top tank. What do people do with 'reef lights' that say it 'should' be over a glass canopy. That's not really very practical. Producers should know this stuff or maybe it's a blanket cover their butts statement. It is as practical as hair dryer instructions stating to not use while sleeping.

here is a link to gwen's tank and her sunpod

    Thanks for your thoughts

This is about the same size as the NanoCube 28 JBJ Nano Cubes Chillers and Lighting and it comes stock with a 150W MH. I have never had MH lights but I think that they come with a glass UV shield. Everyone I know that has MH runs them over an open top tank.

I am using the Coralife Aqualight Pro hang on in my 24ga Nano and honestly, I could not be happier with the results! The clams are doing great while the LPS are not getting creamed. I have got a range of corals in there and everybody is loving life. That light sports a 150W 14K HQI MH that looks more like a 20K.

I am adding a 30ga cube along side my 210ga display as a show refugium and I went and got another Aqualight Pro...........

Not too much, not to little.............just right.
