    Gigas growth under T-5's

They say Gigas grow fast. Wll I have to agree. Mine grew over 1/4 inch in 3 weeks. The funny thing is he grew 1/8 inch over the last week and now I think he hit a growth spurt because I really started to dose my tank with Phyto. Anyways, here are some pics, hope you like EM...

I've moved to T5 over my 120 SPS tank. I like what I see on all the boards, and my 800 watts of MH plus VHO was killing my wallet. I have already sold my chiller, my temp has dropped by 5 degrees! I will post photos when the complete rehab is done.

Yeah I did about 3 weeks of research on numerous boards and for the long term ownership cost I couldn't justify getting Metal Halides. Plus living in Florida I don't want to deal with the heat they put off. I would surely have to get a chiller with Halides. Glad to see some people can see past a minor detail like a little"glimmer" and go T-5's. Gotta be the smartest move I made in Reefkeeping IMO. Take care all and long live my T-5's (bulbs) lol!! Can't wait to see pics of your tank Fibber.

8251Reefer - the pics look great and it looks like your giga is happy and healthy!

Rob - it's quite common here in Europe to use both! Of course, we don't really have to worry about the heat problem! I've got a mixture of 250W 14K metal halides and T5's. It's a nice combo!

yes,in fact i will likely give serious consideration to them as bsupplements.. Heat is not a huge issue for me i live either. and at $50 every 12-14 months for bulbs, only have the ongoing cost is not that much.. and even when i compare to the $350 i paid for my whole setup, cost nor heat is a huge deal for me..

but i do see its overall apeal..

If you think about it that makes a lot of sense. If we're trying to simulate natural light there are two kinds. Very bright light from the sun (point light) and blue light from the sky (light from every, above the tank, angle). A MH/T-5 combo comes very close to this.

    Hey Fibber -

I checked out your website and read up on the thread of Iwan Laesser and his use of a pure T5 system. All I can say is "WOW"!!! Of course, he's got like every spectrum of T5 possible, so it probably makes up for more of the colors.

But, I was also curious. Are you using this "Prodibio" supplement? Have you had as much luck with it as Iwan??

This Prodibio supplement was currently not for sale within the United States. However, I talked extensively with Rob From WWW.ROBSREEF.COM and he says he was the only known distributor of it here in the United States. As as matter of fact when I was visiting him at his store he was talking to FEDEX about his shipment delay from the FDA. BTW the colors Iwan gets isn't just because of the light "Spectrum" alone, he uses Zeolite as well as pridibio and has alot of light in that tank. The cool thing about the T-5's is that it actually illuminates the entire coral not just some of the coral like point source lights do (Halides). Anyways, if I get some of the prodibio I will let you all know how well it works.

I am waiting to get my preorder from Rob , and you are right its a combination of products. I am in the middle of a complete tear down of my tank. Freshwater is currently running. I am hoping to get everything up w/liverock by the end of March. I am looking forward to using the products. You can get the products out of France. I cannot find the link for that site. However, here is a link on the product itself. I am not endorsing anything just going down another path.

Fibber, I will let you guys know if he has got it in. I know you can get it out of France but their is a lot of red tape involved and it is kind of a pain in the rear. I would get mine from Rob if I were you, it'd save you a ton on shipping! He's really a great guy and he always stands by his word. He told me last time I was at his store that he already had over half of his order presold but with the FDA shipping delay I am not sure if he got it in or not, but I am going tommorrow, only 20 min from my house here in Jacksonville,FL. So if he hasn't given you an update maybe I can help..

That sounds great! I am in no hurry unless it ends up being a summer delivery, LOL.
