    Almost a vacation disaster

Well I went on vacation last week for 4 1/2 days. I don't know of anyone else who has a saltwater tank besides myself. I asked at my local LFS but mostly high school kids with no cars work there. So I let my neighbor take care of the tank who has no saltwater experience while I was away. The night before I left I walked hom through feeding, topping off the water and just checking the Calcium and Alkalinity as those fluctuate. So my family and I decided to comeback a day early from vacation thank goodness because as soon as I walked in the front door all I could hear were my pumps grinding. My neighbor had done everything except top off the water in my BC29. So my two chambers in the back which house the skimmer pump and main return pump had run dry. I immediatley topped it off and lucky for me no damage or loss of life in the tank. If I had comeback a day later I would imagine the pumps would have been burnt out.

I just lost a whole bunch of my best corals due to vacation. My new rule which I almost meant to live by but never did until now. If you buy a love a coral, let it get use to your tank and then frag it. If you have another tank I would preferrably put the frag there.

I will be hard to find such a nice pink tip. I'm glad everything turned out well for you.

Is there a system we could set up on our return pumps to shut them off when the water level drops too low? Maybe a float switch of some type?

There must be a drawback to this; else, more people would us it huh
