veriann, my wife was thinking that the Aiptasia was a "bonus" that came on one of the rocks that was home to another coral. I must confess I thought it was cool until there was a forest of them one that one rock. I know I was getting into trouble when I found 5 Aiptasia growing on a powerhead power cord. I am very thankful for Joe’s Juice and I will recommend it to anyone who has an Aiptasia outbreak. I guess I really need to learn how to find hitchhikers before they take over the tank.

Now that the tank is stable and the Aiptasia has been removed completely, everything is growing strong. My next situation that I need some assistance with is my Cynarina. At one time I felt that the Cynarina would not make it but now I have four, all on the same rock. I will post a photo when I get a chance. Is there a way to frag a Cynarina?

i would have to guess that it would be just like an open brain. i like to use a tile saw on all LPS corals with a thick skeleton base. less stress on the coral and it keeps the tissue wet while you cut through it. i have never tried to frag a meat/doughnut coral, but i have fragged MANY open brains.

if you decide to try this ... shake it around in the water until it closes as tight as you think it can. there will be less tissue damage from the saw or dremel this way. run the saw or dremel completely through the coral and i always try to get about half of the mouth on each frag.

I promised you photos of my Cynarina and here is the best one I got

Use you may or may not be able to see there are 5 little Cynarinas around the main one. I have labeled them for easier identification.

As far as I can tell there are months in each Cynarina.
I had to wait for only the actinics to be on so the main one would deflate so yo can see the "babies" individually.

Just a quick update: A new picture of the Recordia in all its puffy glory.
I have added a Kenya Tree frag (in the lower left of the photo), a Finger Leather
    and a Watermelon mushroom.
Here is a new whole tank shot.
Things are looking ok for now.

Looking good. I may have mentioned it earlier but keep an eye on the hippo. He will quickly outgrow your tank.

The hippo has not gotten any larger over the last year. It still hides in the some places and look very happy. It continues to loop and circle the tank. We did lose the Cynarina and we would love to replace it, but we have not found another one. The Watermelon mushrooms have taken over haft the tank.

We had a leak under the tank and found that the fitting for the drain from the tank was leaking. That has been fixed. I felt that the leak was from the protein skimmer because there was water outside the tank anytime I moved the skimmer. Since the skimmer is fine I have added sand and a light to the sump. Now I just need to add macro and maybe a fish.
