    Thanks "D"...

Rob just told me that this is one of the most "linked" episodes on TR. I'm glad we could help. I've also found that Premium Aquatics is now selling the mesh mod kits to do this. It's great that concepts, brought about by other hobbyists, are now making a difference. It was fun to show all of you, in video, what others have done to improve the hobby.

    euro reef pump problem

I was hoping someone might be able to help me out with a problem i'm having with my pump. It was purchased new about 8 months ago, I did the mesh mod about 6 months ago. About a month ago, i was cleaning the collection cup and when i plugged it back it no bubbles were being produced. After plugging in and out about 5-6 times i tried blowing through the airline tub. This worked! The bubbles started shooting into the canister and was operating as it normally would with one exception, it is making this annoyingly loud gargling sound. Also, every time i empty the cup out i have to blow into the airline to get it going again. I have cleaned it out several times but nothing seems to fix the problem. Do you know what is going on here??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

JustDavidP- can I ask you how much of a difference you noticed with the mod, and do you have any before and after pictures of your skimmate?

    Thanks

    mod

Honestly i wish i had not done the mod, i believe it led to the breakdown of my pump which is like $150 to replace and to be even more honest i realized no difference what so ever; however, i should note that my pump was bran new about 8 months ago and they put some new neddle wheel in the recent models, so i guess it really depends how old your pump is.

I wouldn't do the mod if your pump is less than 8-9 months old. If it had the older wheele you may notice a difference... Good luck.

I don't have an ER but it sounds like something is partially blocking the inlet. If you can't get to the inlet to make sure it is clear maybe you could try soaking it in vinegar.

Guys, thanks for the thorough explaination of this mesh modification. I'm wondering if it would be easier to leave a few selectly located pins on the needlewheel and push them through the mesh, cut them down a few millimeters and cap them with a hot glue or such? That'd save some cutting and avoid balancing issues I'd think.
