What size is your tank?
Yes, it generally works to remove the more aggressive fish while introducing the calmer. During his absence you could remodel the rockwork.
The guy who sold me my yellow tang about a month ago told me that first in yellow tangs tend to beat the crap out of any additional tangs I might put in there. I know not to put in two tangs with the same body shape, but I was hoping to get a hippo eventually. Anybody have any experience to give me some ideas?
I was thinking that if it is a problem, maybe taking out my yellow and letting him live in a QT for a while while the hippo makes himself at home would keep the yellow from being so territorial. Anybody ever tried doing something like that?

It's a 75 gallon, so theres decent room for both, I think. I just got the aquascape like I want it, so... I'm thinking that remodeling wouldn't be on my agenda.
Good to know that my idea is a good one
But I can't answer specifically to a yellow and a hippo but your idea does work when introducing a more peaceful fish after a more aggressive one.... if they aren't compatible it won't help.

yes, the recommendation of QT the aggressive fish and moving some rocks will take care of it. a hippo and a yellow tang will do fine together, however your tank may not be big enough for them, 75 is the minimum for 1 yellow tang, 100 is the minimum for 1 hippo tang. you can try it, but be careful because it might cause them to stress easily.
