    cheap refugium

I have not yet had the chance to set up a sump and have not wanted to spend the money on the hang on back refugiums so I set up my own.
I had an extra Emperor 400 laying around so I just hung it on the back of my tank where the lights shine on it and filled both compartments with cheatomorpha.
It's been working great for about 2 years now.

Yahoooooo! Great idea. Thanks for passing it along...and thanks for joining our little oasis on the web! Welcome!

It is so true that almost ANYTHING can be used as a refugium. I had a 20 gallon brute trash barrel that I used to "fix" some live rock. When I was done, I realized that there was TONS of pods and mysid in there. I ended up keeping the barrel near my large sump, clipping a shop light on it, putting macro and rubble in there, setting a powerhead on the side and letting it be for a while. I then drilled it, put in a bulkhead and fed it with a maxijet pump. The overflow goes back into the sump and it's been great!

David, I noticed you mentioned you had a clip on light for your sump/refugium and i seen the light in your pictures too. What im wondering is what type of bulb do you use? Im looking to replace mine to free up some room and a clip light would be perfect. but i want to make sure ill get the same output. Right now i have a 10k 65watt PC.

It is the Lights of America fixture and it too uses a PC bulb.
