    Small Fry's 120

well, today i journeyed up to toronto to pick up my tank, i decided to get one that wasn't drilled because im not sure on the location right now. It's going to be a very slow project, due to money issues, so i got the tank, i'm probably going to do old castle for the substrate (cutting many corners), use a 100 gallon tank my uncle is giving me for a fuge, and build the stand and then stop to save up for an r/o filter, skimmer, and pumps.

Going slow really sucks but if it means i get a good system, as far as r/o filters and the correct skimmers go, i can wait.

But anyhow, im going to start my journal off with some pictures of how i had to ride home for four hours (my seat is in the back ), and some pics of the tank sitting on it's temporary table.

As you can all imagine i am a very happy person right now

that is my actual tank, and my actual little brother in the first pic

im going to spend tomrorow rearranging my basement tomorow so i can have the tank in front of a doorway, which i will rip out. This will accomplish two things-1.will enable me to have all the piping in the space the door occupied, allowing the tank to be flush against the wall.

and 2- it will allow me to have a room behind the tank, for top-offs, quarantine tank etc... the tankstuff will be a room over from my laundrey room so i wont have to truck buuckets of water across the carpet, i can do most or all work from behind the tank, where there is no carpet

Im just going to have to rewire my computer desk so it can be on the other side of the room.......... No biggie

There is one thing im majorly worried about..... audio visual equipment. the place my family wants the tank is right in the middle of my t.v room. Which consists of my t.v and 1000 watt surround sound system (this scares me)

Im going to do my best to re-locate the sub, because it would put the tank directly beside the subwoofer. The only thing that sucks is this is the only place this tank can go without having it as a room divider (is where i wanted it to go, but the tank is five feet long while the basement is only 10 feet across plus i dont believe the tank is wide enough (18") to be two-sided with rock in the middle, i could do-it, but it wouldnt leave much space on each side.

Wow, just realised how long that was. Anyhow, how harmful will the stereo system be on the fish, and is there anyway to reduce the sound-waves the fish feel??? i.e like styrofoam inbetween the tank and stand yadda yadda.

Worse comes to worse ill programme a volume-limiter so none of my brothers will take it up to its full potential

Despite how slow, ill keep you posted on all the steps i take

Lucky you little man!! I had just a slew of 10 and 20 gallon tanks as a teen. I did't have a tank over 40G until I moved out of my family's home. Thinking back, I'll bet my parents WISHED I had just one big tank. I'd have 7 or 8 going, both salt and fresh water, depending on what I 'caught' for the tanks from Cape Cod and other bodies of fresh water too. My room looked like a biology lab

i'm doing my best to take care of the speakers, the sub will most likely be on the othr side of the room, or unplugged. But thanx for the advice anyways guys, i'll keep you posted

and Dave, if my nano didn't crash, i would never have gotten this tank, it's their attempt to make me feel better

    needless to say it's working

    Update

Well, today we moved ahead, we went to rona and got some 2x4 and 2x12's and came home, planed all sides and assempled the base of the stand. Tomorows a holiday so i'll probably work on the canopy and the doors, they will be made out of pine (i think, not sure) to match the cupboard doors in the kitchen.

anyhow, got some pictures for you all, enjoy

despite it's strength i may add a center brace tomorow, we'll see

okay, still working on the stand, but a dual 175 watt mh system just became available, i have a 300 watt system that i can use, but can this setup (2 175s and 1 300) still be effective for a reef system, or will there be alot of restriction. Sorry but i cant remember how deep the MH lights can go relative to wattage :/

hate to say it but nothing happening, ive gotten a new job at subway to fund it, and i worked maybe 30 hours this week, im almost done the stand, im just figuring out the finer details, and i have to pick out new hinges.

But ive been so annoyed cuz i dont have the money to do anything right now so it sucks, but hey, what'll you do. I may paint it tomorow, and put the tank on the stand, and then when i get the measurements, im gonna make the canopy

looks awesome though, ill have pics in a bit
