    Protein Skimmer

What would you guys recommend for a protein skimmer for about 65 gallons? My protein skimmer got fried tonight. The surge protector caught afire, right where the protein skimmer was plugged in. Now when I try to plug it is, it just shorts out.

Whats your price range? Also are you looking for a HOB or in sump?

There is no elevator to success in marine tanks. You have to take the stairs.

Actually I ended up fixing my old one. Cut the plug off, and rewired a new plug on. Works fine now.

Ok guys. Instead of creating a new board. On my protein skimmer. This has alluded forever. How do I clean the inside of the skimmer? Meaning the main body, where the water and micro bubbles are pushed into.

Right now it is nasty looking. I have distilled white vinegar soaking in the bottem have. But it seems like I still need to get something in there to actually clean the sides. Like a brush or something like that in nature. But it doesn't seem like the tubbing can be removed. Do not want to force it and break anything.

Any suggestion, would be great. Thank you.

I used to run my skimmer in a bucket of bleach water for about an hour. Then I used a piece of coathanger with a wad of paper towel to push around and free up the nasties. Quick rinse, then run in a bucket of vinegar water for 10-15 minutes, another GOOD rinse and was done. I had a few people tell me not to leave it in vinegar to long as it's extremely acidic and can ruin seals/gaskets or even eat away at epoxys that hold the skimmer parts together causing leaks.

You can look for a set of flexible brushes too.
