I am sorry for your loss.![]()
Iam posting because the "need to know" for my fellow reefers far outweighs my embassment and heartache!
I have had a beautiful pair of mated harlequins for a good while now. not much in my tank makes me smile quite as much as when I walk by and they are out 'playing' together! About once a month I go about my aptasia erradication. I have always used 2 probucts called aptasia X and aptasia control, depending on availability. I had FINALLY gotten an order for Joes Juice, been wanting to try it out for some time now. So, heres how it went... I was happilly erradicating when some 'juice' got near (or on) my female. didnt think too much of it, thought that if she didnt like it that she would just swim off. an hour later I came back to turn pumps back on and she was dead in her tracks
OMG I was (am) so sick. I killed her!!!! I am not saying that it was one product over the others cause I dont know, I AM saying that I never thought about it and now I understand that I should have used more care, I have never had a problem before that I am aware of. I do know how sensitive shrimp are
I'll bet some of you out there knew that this could happen, I need EVERYONE to know!!!

Yikes!!! Sorry to hear about your shrimp. I’ve used Joe’s Juice for years but never had that problem. Thanks for informing us about the potential.

thanx guys, I guess the Joes IS meaner than I thought!! Dylan, thanx for the confirmation. It only takes one mistake to bring you heartache! (hey that should be my signature!) I will be much more careful with it. It was the fiest time I had used this brand, as stated. Shrimp can be really delicateGLAD you can benifit from my mistake!!

I've used JJ a few times to nuke mojano nems and never had any troubles with inverts or corals. I need to do it again and now I have 4 maxi mini nems and I'm a little nervous about using something thats designed to kill nems. I just looked at the box and all it says is thak it kills aiptasia and mojano nems and is reef safe. By reef safe I assume that it wont harm corals or inverts but now I've gone from nervous to scared. Do you use a lot of it when you go aiptasia hunting? I wonder if there is a recomended maximum amount to use. Drops per gallon or something. I'll have to go to their website and poke around a little, maybe send them an e-mail and see what they say. Very interesting topic. I hope more peeps chime in with their experiences using this stuff. Sorry to hear about your troubles since using the juice.
so far, everything I have researched has Joe and his JUICE ingredients under lock and key. Nobody seems to know whats in it. No warnings on the info save from getting it on YOU, and apparently Joe can be a bit difficult (arrogant was the word used). I did also find others with shrimp issues, loss (?) and unexlained death. There are also many who have never had an issue. The label DOES say to fill ONLY the oracle, unlike Aptasia-X for examle wants you to use a couple ml. on each. I probably over-used, and some landing on/near the shrimp was OBVIOUSLY not good because like I said, she was dead within the hour. Im not saying its a bad product, because who would know?? cant find out whats in it!! Maybe fine if not on/near other things. I AM nervouse though and may have to spend the money for the "Aptasia Zapper!"

And EVERYBODY thinks I'm crazy for having a platoon of Peppermint Shrimp! See? Looks like Mikie's not so CRAZIE now! ...though there was that one Sith Lord Aiptasia that took several gallons of Aiptasia X (not really, but definitely a few syringes!) and when I did finally kill it, I thought I killed my RBTA too.
I don't like the fact that they aren't saying what's in it. If I don't buy the zapper I may try boiling water. I feed way too much (hence the aphasia))for peppermint shrimp to want to eat those buggers. I'm thinking the $75 investment on a zapper may be the way to go

I can only imagine the label..." Kills aiptasia and mojano and may cause skin loss, heart failure, vomiting, poor gas mileage, headache, hearing loss.....". But seriously I've seen some of the mojano's explode after using it and wonder what would happen if it got in a cut. Or you have it on your hands and rub your eye or something. I dont have the directions for the juice anymore and cant remember if there were warnings on it or not.
I feed A LOT. I mean Back up the Dump truck a lot. I actually learned to feed from Amphibious, so I have to be very careful to change my filter pads frequently and do consistent weekly water changes. I think most of the peppermints think of the Aiptasia as a delicacy, they are fat and happy, but they still fight over any little aiptasia's that pop up.
M R WOW!!! I may really have to try again with the pepermints. I think I have one left in there and it would be impossible to know if he is eating them. I have a seahorse so I HAVE to feed a lot, they eat several times a day which means so does everyone else INCLUDING the aptasia! I dont have a large bioload really, a 125 gl with a mandarin, 3 blennies, one wrass, various inverts. Maybe I could use about 6?

salty, I still have the instructions. Warnings are for humans, no warnings about anything in our tank. Sounds a bit suspicious!!![]()

I have 8 or 10 in a 90, and I can usually only see the whiskers or a bit of one or two poking out in various places unless the lights are out or I'm feeding, then they tend to come out of the rock work en force. If an aiptasia shows up they tend to dog pile on it and tear it to shreds, it looks like a Rugby, Hockey, Lacrosse, and Boxing mixer. They also do an excellent job keeping left over food from accumulating anywhere.
Gosh I really hope to see that rugby tourament!!! Dont know if anyone remembers a few years ago, my reluctance to KILL!! many of you said, JUST DO IT!! wish I had!!!

I had some aiptasia in my nano. I nuked the big ones with Joe's Juice (which I had done before but new ones kept popping up) and put 3 peppermints in the tank and within a few days no more aiptasia!

I had read horror stories about aiptasia and seen the dilemma consistently posted and re-posted in forums everywhere before I saw my first, so I didn't hesitate to kill mercilessly. I have an extreme prejudice against a few reef enemies.
