Macro lens

Well lets face it I am not liking the pictures I am getting from my tank and no little of photography equipment. Love my camera, cannon eos rebel xsi. Looking for a lens for this this camera that will allow me to get the close up pictures that I so desire. Anyone have any suggestions of a good macro lens they are using. I realize these are really expensive and will be an investment in a few months from now, just want some input of someone that uses them currently.

I'm a Nikon gal and I have their 105mm macro lens. I like it a lot!

how much did you pay for it carmie?

It's the most expensive glass I have. When my husband got it for me 3 years ago (before he got laid off) it was $950. I was flabbergasted when I opened it! If I had been buying it myself I would have bought something cheaper but it is really nice.

Wow and i thought that 500 was a bit on the pricey side. Well I hope someone that uses a cannon will chime in with lens reccomendations
